Lets Talk about Dog Poo

I'm sure being in Melbourne you know all about dog poo, it infuriates most people.

How appealing would your rental property look if the front yard and footpath were covered in these doggie bombs? Would it be harder to attract the right kind of tenant? Well I don't think it would put off everyone, but I'm sure there are a few people who it would adversely effect.

It seems that this problem has caused frustration around the world, I came across this article where a solution has been found and it seems DNA testing is the answer.

In the US/Canada there is a company called PooPrints that will keep the DNA of a pooch on file (swabbing inside of the cheek). For an additional fee, feces that is collected will be analyzed and you will be notified of the culprit - if their information is on file.

Is this another 'only in America' type business, or would it actually be beneficial to Australians?

If you allow pets in an apartment complex or if your rental property lies within the confines of a Property Owners Association, then I can almost see the appeal. You can send this problem back to the owners in most cases (in the form of a hefty fine). I'm sure however, it would only be successful in a fairly self-contained, as you no doubt would come across visiting dogs.

But I can see the appeal, especially after you have spent 20 minutes scrapping poo off of your shoes. I think the only way it would work in Australia is if you had to provide a DNA sample of you canine when you first registered it, then maybe a city as a whole would benefit.

What do you think? Is this service really fulfilling a function that Aussies could really get on board with, or is it really just someone trying to make a buck?
